Alright, I'm thinking about buying a cell phone for my son using a prepaid service. So basically my question is can i buy the 8265, for 50 dollars then activate it with free2go wireless? Or are there hidden costs?

you can't get it for $50, thats after a $100IR if you activate with a plan.

But yes that phone should work, free2go is TDMA prepay, i used to use an 8260 on it. I don't believe there is an activation free for prepay. goPhone is GSM prepay.

I would recommend you search hotdeals for prepaid deals, there is a service that uses at&t's tdma network and their rates are cheaper and exires in i think 90 days instead of 30 (? or is it 45) days

So can i get a t68i(GSM phone, phone I originally wanted, but I thought prepaid phones are only TDMA) under the gophone GSM plan?

You can get the t68i under the Cingular Prepaid GSM. I like the 8265 a lot better, though. Its a much nicer phone as far as reliability and useability go. Cool looking phone covers, if your son wants that.

2 questions, 1 does Cingular allow you to use your own phone? 2. Is there any place to find out if Cingular supports the t68i?

ALSO:can someone explain to me what unlocking phones means?

Call and ask 🙂

Remember with most prepay, you have to use X amount of minutes each month or activate a new card every X days. With Tracfone, it's activate a $10 card every 30 days I think (making the cost for a phone like $10/month with little airtime). I had alltel prepay, it was pretty much limited to NW Ohio, but I didn't stray far out of there at the time. I had to use 1 minute a month to keep the phone active, or there was a $4 service charge. One unit of airtime was $0.35, which is pretty damn cheap for a cell phone. I very rarely used it, so I went a couple years paying about $0.35/month for it 🙂

Now my cell phone is my only phone and I travel a lot, so I have a ~$30 plan.
