Do they always charge an activation fee if you want to add a service to your existing plan (especially Sprint)?

not always....i know att doesnt charge anything to add any service or to upgrade the plan or add a promotion. to upgrade a plan, usually the company makes you stay on the contract for a few more months.

What do you mean? Another phone?

Sprint always charges to activate or change phones.

I'm done with Sprint myself. Their CS sucks. Luckily, I didn't need to call very often, but when I did, it was always a 15-50 minute wait on hold to talk to someone who's obviously cranky, stressed, and overworked.
