Phone: Motorola Q black
Service: Verizon Wireless
Client using: Octrotalk

i constantly get kicked off and then back on... it's kind of annoying to peopel im talking to. Do any clients not knock you off, or keep the account online and grab the IMs when you get back on, or something similar?

People keep complaining that they keep seeing "I signed off" then "I signed on" over and over........

Do any other clients work this better?

For me, this was a result of my power saving setting. If your phone is told to power down after ~5 minutes of no activity (on your end), it'll drop your IM server connection. When you do check the cell again, it'll reconnect and post that event to everyone in your list.

i'd be willing to be its EVDO. you wouldn't typically notice a sloppy signal during browsing because it doesn't really have to maintain a connection.

This is a long shot but perhaps you left yourself logged in on another computer somewhere? I know if I have Trillian running on my home computer and I try to log in with my cell phone it goes into a constant re-login loop.

These phones shut off their network interfaces to save power. Sorry, it's just how it is. If you are able to get it switched to keep all the interfaces alive all the time, your battery life will suck.

I run IM+ on my Verizon Moto Q Black and I stay connected. You may wanna do a demo of IM+ and see what that does for you?
