cell phone not available for my area?!? nokia 6800

so i'm really thinking about gettin rid of sprint for my cell phone....just tired of crappy signal, expensive phones w/out any consideration for longterm customer support (i.e., no deals for existing customers) and just general lack of customer care.

anyways, everyone i know with cingular highly likes them so while looking around i found the nokia 6800 is available for use on cingular, so that pretty much summed it up for me. any opinions of someone w/ the phone would be great🙂

anyways, it says phone not available in tallahassee, fl, but it is available in orlando, where home is. so y is it that its not available up here? will i not be able to use it up here or get a phone number w/ this area code? anyone have any ideas?

TIA

its triband, so it shouldn't matter
besides, if i can buy it at one cingular location, that would mean that i couldn't travel to other places that have cingular service? that's f'ed

Meaning it works on two GSM frequencies (I forgot the numbers GSM850 and 1900?) and analog. So yes, it does matter. If theres no GSM network at that area, and only their older TDMA network (I believe its TDMA, I may be wrong), hello analog (or even nothing at all.)

And I wouldn't put it passed Cingular for sh1tty coverage. 😉 But of course, YMMV.

well it seems to be the only phone they don't offer here....
and at least around here, and in orlando, they are one of the better companies for coverage...and, since that is where most of my time is spent...

Verizon is your friend. Give them a shot, they are number one for a reason. I personally believe you should also look at other carriers. Cingular could either be gsm or tdma in your area, this makes a major difference into your cell's performance, if it is TDMA I would go with another carrier. Check out T-mobile, Verizon, AT&T...

well, at&t is non existant here...they buy time on other people's towers, so they aren't an option
t-mobile is ok, but to get the same style phone i would have to get the sidekick, which is now 300 or more.
verizon is pretty decent from what i hear, but honestly cingular is the largest provider besides us cellular around here, and i refuse to ever go back to us cellular

besides, i really really like this phone🙂

Possibly the best cell phone forum out there. They probably have some feedback in the carriers section of your area. Give it a whirl and check it out, if they can't answer your questions...agh.

First off, the SideKick by early next month it should be available from Amazon.com (and hopefully for really cheap like they did with the 3650). Later this summer, Tmobile will also introduce the 6800.

I don't know what Cingular's internet plan is, but I think Tmobile's plan are hard to beat.
