Only other cell phone I used was one that my employer gave me (mostly local calls, a couple long distance) I have since moved and got me a personel cell phone. My question is, about ever other long distance call I make I hear an echo when I talk. I can hang up and call again and half the time the echo is gone. My question, is this normal or is there a problem with the phone? I have only had it for a couple weeks and can take it back. thanks for your answer in advance.

It is digital. Service is from US Cellular. The phone is a Audiovox CDM-9150x

What service provider are you using? What you are describing sounds like you are on analog instead of using digital mode..

Are you using analog or digital service? I've used Tmobile/Voicestream (GSM) since the beginning and never really heard echos blatantly, sometimes I'd hear an echo but it was local calls from VS/TM users as well... could be the phone. Is it a Motorola?

actually the echoe is symptom of digital...analog never echoes...its a random thing...if you ever get that, just hang up and power your phone on and off...then it should be fine

Stop using a crappy phone with a crappy provider.
Switch to a Motorola, Samsung, or Nokia and go with a better provider like AT&T or Verizon.

Echoing occurs on ALL providers/cell phones...

I had it when i was on AT&T, Verizon, Vstream/Tmobile, Bellsouth/Cingular, and now with Sprint.

I had echoing on Verizon as well, with my first phone, which was a crummy Kyocera. After I got my v60i on the same service, I haven't had any problems.

It happens randomely. One thing you can do is start to talk when the phone is dialing and if you hear an echo, hang up. This way you don't waste minutes but you do drive the person you are calling insane.

My wife has US Cellular, and it happens all the time, with her very nice phone. I have Cingular, and it rarely happens. I think twice in the last year I've noticed it. Its probably more the provider than the phone.

Yup. I have a Nokia 8265 on AT&T.

Does who your calling have any effect on whether you get it or not?
