so the girl who sits across from me has a cellphone, and whenever it goes off or she gets a text message, my monitor starts making static sounding low tones, and my monitor starts getting random lines dancing across it..wtf?

If you hold it on the plastic towards the rear of the CRT a lot of them will shutoff completely. Pretty neat trick :). Get an LCD and your problems will be solved.

My truck I drove for work I always knew when I was getting a call before my phone would even ring. I would get all kinds of static through the radio 1-2 seconds before the phone would even ring. It was kinda cool for it gave me a chance to turn the radio down and then pick it up and it would ring.

So

It happens. Interference and all that. Basically, the cell phones and monitors aren't complying to FCC standards.

Sometimes my speakers, make weird staticy noises. I think the cell phone might be part of it. I'll remember when to check to see where my phone is in when it goes off.

Good ol' interference. Strange rhythmic noises happen when my cell phone and speakers are in close proximity.

Yeah, I have only seen it with GSM phones. I've never had my CDMA phone interfere with anything.

Yeah, so do mine. I know when I'm getting a text, about 10 seconds before it hits my phone.

GSM is more likely to do it versus CDMA due to the fact that GSM is pulsed.

GSM still pwns though.
