We use the older micro-cassette recorders to dictate reports and have not made the jump to digital recorders. We commonly get interference/buzzing from our Blackberry's and have started noticing gaps/missing/damaged audio on the tape during playback. In some cases, the entire tape is damaged, not just the portion that was being recording when the interference occurred. Most tapes have been brand new and not reused.

Has anyone noticed this before? The interference makes sense, but I'm surprised that the entire tape could be damaged.

Do you use a case with your BlackBerrys? All cases have a magnet in them to switch profiles and save power when in the holster.

As for the interference, I'm assuming these are GSM technology BBs, and theres nothing you can do about that, it's a GSM thing.

As a side note, why not pop an 8Gb SD card in the BlackBerry and use the voice recorder for reports? You can even email them directly from the device that way.
