For those of you who are living in a college dorm (particularly the first floor) more than likely you dont have any cell phone reception. I was hoping that someone knew of someway for me to get reception on my cell phone (Really good cell phone plan as opposed to 8 cents a minute on dorm phone).

I have been looking at external antenna's for my phone (Sanyo MM-7500) because i know that the minute i walk outside i have one bar away from full service. For that reason, although i might be wrong, i dont think that i need an amplifier or anything.

At anyrate can you guys help me find something (This topic doesn't fit any other forum aside from OT)

don't knowq if you can, but putting an antenna outside your window might work. I always just call people when I am walking outside

I would too, but late at night or something. Not only that the phone is CONSTANTLY searching for service (finding and then dropping) inside the dorm which drains its battery much faster.

I was thinking of getting this and then the 12" adapter cable. That would only give me ~ 14' of cord (which isn't enough).

It really depends on the building. In one dorm that I lived in, i had better reception in my bathroom, than in my bedroom. The bedroom was in the corner of the building, and my bathroom was next too it( bathroom had a window in it). This was a suite. When i lived in a more traditional style dorm( common bathroom, etc) i had good reception all around.

I thought this was going to be another Snakes on a Plane thread, "Cell phones in a dorm" lol. I have Verizion and use a Motorola v710 phone and I get pretty good reception indoors with the antenna up. I think it really depends on (1) the quality of your phone, and (2) the quality of the carrier in your location. Verizon has excellent service in New England. If you get a $25 sale phone you're probably not going to get great reception though. My wife had a basic Samsung that sounded like trash, but when she got a Razr the sound quality went way up. ymmv.

Well the MM-7500 is a very expensive cell phone. It is right below Sprint's flagship model A900 (By Samsung).

I SHOULD be able to do that window thing, i just cant find a long enough cord. My only other option is this. The only thing with that is im concerned about where to mount the external antenna. I could get some industrial grade adhesive and then go talk to the people in the room right above mine and ask if they mind if i mount an antenna on their windowsill (The antenna seems small enough). Otherwise i will have to try on my window and just hope the antenna is strong enough.
