Cell phone firmware

Does anyone know how to go about updating the firmware for their cell phone? I have a LG VX6100 through Verizon and I have been having a lot of problems with dropped calls and the operation of the phone in general. I have a feeling that it is my phone because I was using my old phone (LG TM-510) that my parents now have and it works much better in the same area that I am using my phone in right now. After doing some Googling I came across that there were firmware updates for my phone. I just do not know how to get them. Does anyone know how I find/get these or do I have to go through Verizon?

I edited the firmware on my VX6000 to get rid of the banner text, but that was a loooong time ago.

Give HowardForums a shot if you haven't already. Excellent resource for anything and everything to do with cell phones.

I have the same phone - no problems with dropped calls tho.
AFAIK, you'll need to take the phone to Verizon. I think the current firmware version is V03.

You are correct.

However, version 3 does not help with dropped calls. I have this phone and it does drop from time to time. It really seems to hate Analog. I should have went with a Samsung or Motorola.

Yup, and if anything goes wrong when they do it - you get a new phone 🙂
DIY and mess up - you're SOL.
