Cell Phone "cancellation"

My girlfriend has a cell phone plan with ATT wireless, and a year contact with a large contract cancellation fee.

The problem is she has a 2-phone plan with an ex-roomate who refuses to pay his share. Going to small claims court wont work because the roomate has no money to pay her, cancelling the plan would be the best. The negative is the large cancellation fee, about 175.

Is there any way to get out of paying this fee?

What if you report a phone stolen/lost? Will this cancel your plan without requiring you to pay a cancellation fee?

Thanks,

tell them you're moving to canada... double check if they have service in canada also. Just complain complain to a manager at ATT.. you'll get what you want eventually.

Transfer the second phone service to a new phone. Either tell the old one was stolen (which would be true if the other person won't pay.) Then keep the new phone for your own use.

i thought because of some newly added charge, people are able to cancel their contract in march.
i don't know if this only applies to tmobile, but you can check last bill or check over at f@tw@11et.com.

This is the best plan.
