Cell phone bills - how much are the surcharges and taxes?

$39.99 a month is what i signed up for and the total each month comes to around $55.00.

Local Airtime, Long distance, and International charges
$6.00 (no intnl calls were made, long distance is SUPPOSED to be included in my plan)

Taxes, Fees, and Surcharges
$9.04 All kinds of stupid stuff like 911 fees and poison control fees...etc

Is it normal to have $15 in charges on a $40 bill? That is 37.5% of my "regular" monthly cost.

That's nothing man. I have a $99.99 Verizon shared family plan with 2 active numbers and phones and end up paying $160-180 each month. It's a downright scam what they don't tell you.

When I signed up for Verizon Wireless, I specifically asked the sales rep what my max bill would be if I didn't go over the plan minutes including all 'hidden' fees like gov. taxes, service surcharges etc. He told me at most it should never exceed $135 for both phones so I thought great, this is a good price for a solid reliable service and signed up.

First monthly bill shows up and I'm pro-rated for the last ->4<- days of the bill cycle plus the next actual month. Pro-rate bill includes all of the taxes and surcharges as well as a bit of the actual phone service for both phones. The bastards billed me over $260 for 34 days worth of usage. Next bill shows up and it's $183 or so and shows on the bill that I'm charged for all of these things I didn't sign up for such as call waiting, unlimited text messaging etc.

you got some extra charges going on there....I have the same plan with tmobile, have text messaging, and insurance on my phone, and my bill comes out under 50 every month

We have something ludicrous like $22 in taxes et al on an $80 plan. Ouch. Contract is up next month... time to wheel and deal! "Hello, could I have your retention department please?". 😀

Thing is, even if my contract is up next month, every god damned 'public service' type of businesses in the US are pretty much the same deceitful service so I'd probably waste more time and money switching to another provider.

I tried to wheel and deal with Tmobile and well, they basically said fvck off, we don't care. But how about a new phone for $149.99 and 50% off your next month of service.

Instead I got a new V3 razr for free.

Taxes on my 39.99 plan usually have me up to 44-45$ a month, and the annoying thing is that the taxes aren't constant even though my usage is the same.

That's my feeling, but the retention department doesn't have to know that. 😀
