Cell phone alts such as skype wifi?

I have been looking at skype wifi which looks really good but you have to be within a wifi connnection and the phone is expensive.

I can't afford all the overages anymore on my cell phone so i really am looking for some alternatives because i need a phone.

Links or advice is greatly appreciated

You don't need to have a phone strapped to your head 24/7. Maybe if you did some real work and didn't talk all the time, you could afford a phone.

That said, there's no such thing as a free lunch.

Finally, this isn't highly technical unless you want to design your own phone and hack into the cell network, in which case it would be illegal anyway.

Or set up your own network, which wouldn't be cost effective anyway.

OP, I think the reason you're not getting any constructive replies is that everyone here's just waiting for the mods to lock this thread. This thread isn't highly technical! You'd have better luck getting constructive responses in a different forum.
