Need some guidence/advise/experience with this...

I am a current Cell One month to month customer, no contract...

w/ this merger upcoming, could I get new Phones w/ a new contract, then when the merger happens, opt out with no fees???

the reason I ask, is a few years ago, I believe, it was SBC was purchased or merged with Cingular/AT&T and they gave all those people the option of opting out without fees and keeping their phones...

thanks for any thoughts, finkle

You should check to see if your plan is better than cingulars. If so... your plan will become grandfathered and you can keep that rate. But if you want a new phone I believe Cingular forces you to sign their contract.

I actually got cancelled from Cingular about a year ago... the plan I had w/ Cingular was a much better plan...

anyhoot, maybe I'll be able to use them again if they are taking over all the Cell One towers in my area??

thanks, finkle

Well you're a Cingular customer now on a Cell One contract. I'm pretty sure Cingular will let you renew your contract. Just give it a call... nothing to lose.

Hey,
thanks for the input... I'm not phrasing the question correctly....

I'm basically trying to scam them out of new phones by getting out of the two year contract early, account they are merging/being taken over by another company.... then using the phones with whatever company I want w/ no contract....

that's what I want to know, what are my chances of getting away with it???

thanks again, finkle

Hmm.. Well, scam is maybe to strong a word... you should be able to tell from My "Modest Heat" that I don't scam people... How about use their own terms of service against them?? If I for some reason need/want to end the contract early or change service it cost me something...

Can I compare it to the endless threads in Hot Deals about mis pricing of items that peeps order and the first few get them?? Checking out and the $100 item rings up for $1, Or the buy/return/price matching/coupon stacking that goes on???

Anyhoot, your comment didn't help or hurt, but thanks for your input...

Again it won't hurt to call? Nobody can say anything for certain. You might be able to because everything will change over to Cingular/AT&T

Yes, you should be able to cancel when the merger is final without a eft. But, make sure the contract you sign is for Dobson/Cell one and not AT&T. I dont think you can cancel untill the merger gets SEC and DOJ clearance, so it could be 6 months to a year. I was with Western Wireless when alltel bought them and I think it took about 8 months for everything to become alltel. Another thing too, especially with 3rd party sellers, they may have clause to where if you disconect service within 180 days they can charge your card on file for the full amount of the phones. So make sure that isnt in there. Your best bet would be to go to a Cell One store and buy the phone. Ask them about it, they may know.
