celings (in size) on current solid state flash memory?

Well we all know the celing on SmartMedia was 128MB. xD is now at 512 and they are releaseing a 1GB in December, and CompactFlash has been at 2GB for a while... but has it hit it's peak without going into microdrives? How about the other types of media such as SD?

Anyone with some inside information? 😉

Actually, CF cards now come in 12GB sizes. Unfortunately, it's like $10,000 or so for the card.

Those are non-microdrives?

Man, I always said CF was the best straight from the beginning... last century that is (got my 8MB sandisk with a '99 Copyright in my pocket).

I have a 1Gb SD card arriving tomorrow, so I don't think they've hit the ceiling quite yet.

What kind of deal did you get? I get mine in around a week, like $40 AR.

Given that I'm in the UK, and MIRs are very uncommon here, it came to $115. Yes, for you guys that's a lot, but for us it's a pretty good price. Things are a hell of a lot more expensive over here.

Yup, 12GB of solid state memory. Hence the huge price tag.

I forget the exact number but there is a ceiling on the density of NAND flash memory. Beyond NAND there is something called FRAM that is supposedly the next step in non-volatile memory.
