(ahem)
So, my 566 is rock solid with stock cooling @892, with the CPU @1.9V and 2 degrees above the mobo temperature. I, of course, want it to go 935 or even 952. I've got a Golden Orb on the way. I can get into Win2K @932 with 2.0V, but get kicked out of Unreal Tournament after about 5 seconds into the fly-by. Is this CPU-related(remember, the chip runs about 28 degrees Celsius) or is this a PCI instability(Voodoo3 2000 @default)? I've tried upping the voltage to 2.1V, but I can't even get into the OS. Any suggestions, or do I wait for the Orb and lump it?:Q

Underclock the V3 2000 to 125 and put UT into software mode at the lowest settings.

That will tell you if it's the V3's fault or the CPU/memory's fault to an extent. However, if you still can't run it with UT set properly, then what's the point?

I wouldn't go any higher than 1.9 V for the voltage, however. You might be better off trying to overclock your V3, to at least 166 with better cooling.

Eug:

Thanks for responding. The good news is that my V3 overclocks to 183MHz in Windows98 without a hiccup. The bad news is that Peterson's V3 Overclocking Tool doesn't seem to do anything in Windows2000, which is my current OS on this box. It looks as though I'll wait until the Orb and my Alpha get here, and see which one will do the trick(I have a P3 600E, too!;)).

And don't forget the Artic Silver or Circuit Works Silver Heatsink compound. I wouldn't push the voltage anymore until you get your Pep66 and Gorb. Then I'd try them both out and see what you get.

Busta, Getting kicked back to the desktop is a classic sighn the
cpu is OC'd too far. I would also be carefull, 2.1 is the MAXIUM
voltage a cu-mine core will stand and I dought it will stand it for
long..

Hey, someone who likes to play as rough as me with the voltages. I have found that anything over 1.95 does not seem to help. I have tried this on 3 chips with the same cooling. The jump from 1.90v to 1.95v is helpful, but going to 2.0v and above does not give me any different results than 1.95v.
Busta, not sure if the GO will get you there or not. It should, if you are doing that well with stock cooling.
