Celeron to P4?

GF's specs:

ECS 775 motherboard
Celeron D 2.5ghz
768mb DDR400
Radeon 9600 Pro
13gb 5400 RPM
ect
ect

I know the HD needs replaced to at least 7200RPM asap but is it likely the main bottleneck? She doesn't game any or much so a video card would probably be pointless. Other than the HD would going P4 be the best bet? If so which one?

That's a slow HD, but everything else including the Celeron should be fine for office apps and web surfing. You don't say what she does do other than not game.

The Celeron D is a pretty decent processor.

If the owner doesn't game, I'd keep the PC as it is, with the probable exception of a new, larger, and faster hard drive.

A new hard drive would speed up boot time, and probably speed most things up. At least you could move the hard drive to her next PC.
