Celeron overclockers ...need info please

*** I know this is in the wrong forum but I need answers quickly to build a PC fpr my son's Xmas present***

I am uilding a pc from old parts and I took out this Abit BH6 and Celeron 622 (?) with the super HSF which I ran until 2 years ago. When I booted up it gave me an error message :
CPU NOT WORKING OR HAS BEEN CHANGED - GO INTO BIOS SOFTMENU AND CHECK. Well when I go into bios setup I set the cpu as user defined set the bus speed at 100mhz , save and exit and when I reboot I still get the same error message and sometimes it reboots @ 622mhz with the same error message. It's been too long and I don't remember the routine for overclocking anymore. Is it normal to get the error message when overclocking or have I forgotten to set something else ?
Are ther any other settings to play with such as multiplier ? I set the voltage @1.70 rather than the default 1.65. Should I crank up the voltage a bit ?

 
Overclocking a 600mhz Celery? Whatever for? Go spend $100 and get a mobo/cpu combo from Fry's or something, you'll get a much faster processor than that hunk.

but in overclocking wasn't that the point to run it at 100mhz and get more cpu power.

The faster it runs, the hotter it gets. The hotter it gets, the more errors you get. You can't simply overclock something by 34mhz FSB and expect it to work, especially not the older CPUs. That's basically a 300mhz overclock on a 600mhz CPU, won't happen.

I know you're trying to be helpful and all but .... . The thing ran as I said it did for at least a year until I upgraded to a P4 . It sat in my closet since then until I bought a new case and installed it last night
Do you know the answers to any of my questions ?

I ran a 600 celeron @ 900 all day long for years, with no problems. It still works, even though I don't use it anymore.
 
I got that error everytime the power went out since my battery snapped off my bp6. It just means that you've changed the cpu settings. Inside the bios there is something along with where you change the fsb settings that should say something about it.
 
hopefully that made sense, i'm very hungover..... if you don't mind getting the error message just press f1 or whatever it is and just ignore it.

I hadn't touched it since it ran overclocked 2 years ago save for playing in the bios again to set date etc. The battery was dead and I quess when I replaced it I lost my settings >CMOS eh ? IS that like in the BIOS ?
 
wow, I remember my old BH6. That thing is old, maybe 1999? I would just get a cheap Pentium 3 chip. I think it supports up to 700mhz. Better than what you could overclock the celery to.

Well that's what I've been doing but it seems that way back then it would just boot up @922


what's in the CMOS ?

A BH6 is a slot 1 board. Do you have a S370 celeron on a adapter card or do you have an actual slot 1 celeron. If you have a slot 1 celly, you're not going to be able to OC it very much, certainly not to the 600mhz range. If you have a S370 celly on an adapter card, check the adapter settings.

EDIT: As someone pointed out further down here, a common OC for the older core PPGA cellys was 366@550 by changing the FSB from 66 to 100mhz. The FCPGA coppermine cellys could hit 600+ easily but they started at 533 (66mhz bus) and OC'd to 800, so 622 is not a likely OC speed for those. Most PPGA cellys couldn't hit 600mhz without some luck and some serious work.
 
then go back into the bios and up the fbs till you reach 922 🙂

when you're in the menu changing the voltage and all there should be a thing about turn off notification or something. Agh this is bugging me almost enough to make me pull it out of the closet to look. dual 366@550 ftw

AGAIN I repeat .it ran already for at leat a year. It is s celeron 622 or 636 or something like close that will run @922. I don't remember the settings anymore ...wether I played with the voltage, multiplier or just the FSB speed.

Unless you got an unlocked chip or you modded the chip or the board somehow, it wouldn't be the multiplier. There was a Celly 600 and 633 and then a 700. If yours is a Celly 633, you would be getting a 950mhz going from 66 to 100 on the FSB. The BH6 had FSBs between 66 and 100, I believe, so maybe you were using one of the in betwwen settings. You'd be running your AGP & PCI buses out of spec though.

You're welcome. But now that I think about it, the multiplier can't be changed. I must have changed the FSB. Man that was years ago. My step son was using that computer until just a couple of months ago. Used an MSI slocket of some sort too. Good times.
