Celeron or Duron 700?

According to oct. 2000 issue of maximum PC mag. they state that a celeron 700 is almost as fast as a duron 700 in most of their tests. I cannot believe this. Does intel own this magazine?

That all depends upon the benchmarks run, certain benchmarks run better on certain processors. From what I have seen in magazine reviews, the benchmarks center on office application performance, in which case a Celeron would be close to a Duron. I rarely see heavy duty 3D benchmarks or other severely processor intensive benchmarks in computing mags, and it has been in these ares that the Duron has really shined. It's not really appropriate to compare the Celeron to a Duron, though, as the Duron is a newer design. The next Celeron-type chip will be a better comparison with the Duron. (Though with the way Intel and AMD have been leapfrogging each other, I'm not sure one can really compare AMD vs Intel.)
