Celeron M 340 or 350?

340 is 1.5ghz with 512kb cache (banias core)
350 is 1.3ghz with 1mb cache (whatever the new cores name is)

Which one is going to be a better processor and why. With they have a difference in battery life? Does the increased cache offset the lower speed?

The 1.5ghz Banias would probably edge out the 1.3ghz Dothan by about 10%.

Tests have shown that the new core (Dothan) is about 5% faster. Also, clock for clock, the celeron-m performs just as well as the Pentium-m -- major benefit to P-m is the battery savings. Since you're looking at a 15% clock speed difference, the Dothan would still lose out (slightly).

That being said you probably wouldnt notice the 10% speed difference so I would choose based on price, battery life (does one notebook have a larger battery -- celerons don't reduce speed) and included options.

Actually the Celeron M's are not 100% on part with the Pentium M's. The Dothan P-M's have an improved Branch Predictor which supposedly REALLY helps keep the large L2 cache filled up. And as TheCanuck said, the Celeron-M's don't have the same Speedstep features so they aren't as efficient on battery life.
If you need a budget notebook, the Celeron M isn't a bad way to go. In your case, I would go with the 350 honestly. The performance will be similar with the 340 possibly edging it out slightly, but the newer core is a better investment IMO.
Hope this helps
