I currently have a Celeron D 2.53 running in my machine at 800fsb on an Abit IS7-E mobo with 1gb total pc3200 ram. I might have a chance to upgrade to a P4 2.4 that also runs at 800fsb and am wondering if it's worth switching to and how much performance increase I could expect to see? Will it be worth the switch? I do only casual gaming and no OC'ing but would like a little more speed overall, so I'm just wondering if this processor switch would be worth it. Any advice would be appreciated.

The 800mhz FSB 2.4 has hyperthreading, so that alone will make everything run smoother. You aren't gonna get any drastic improvments in gaming, but the added cache will certainly help. Plus it's a northwood core, so it' should run a little cooler. For gaming, my northwood @3.45 was faster than my prescott @3.82, and your current celeron is prescott based..it depends a lot on how much it will cost ya, but if it was me I'd make the switch.

If you do ever decide to get in to overclocking..Abit boards are great for that..and the 2.4c can usualy get to 3ghz without much trouble, I had one that ran at 3.1ghz.
