I have had my p4 2.53 / 533 since it was the fastest processor avalible, it always runs at ~102 deg.f at idle and 135 deg.f max temp. Retail HS/fan and 65 deg.f ambient room temp. cpu voltage is 1.525v
yesterday I got my p4 celeron 2.0 / 400 with retail hs/fan and built my secondary computer.. It runs always 133mhz fsb @2.66mhz with no extra voltage. it is in the same room and the p4 and idle temp is 95degf and max temp is 122deg.F
Why with the same voltage, same hs/fan and a higher coreclock does the celeron run so much cooler?
does the reduction in L2 cache contribute to that much of a heat reduction? Is the l2 cache typicly the hottest part of a CPU? If so, do pentium 4 exteme editions run way hotter than standard P4's?
