Celeron 600 on Intel RC440BX

Hi folks,
I bought an Intel RC440BX mobo recently, and I want to use celeron 600 on this mobo. It is a slot 1 board, so I also bought a MSI 6905 converter, and there was no prob in adding the processor to the mobo. When I started the machine, I saw an error message saying that the mobo can support only upto 450 MHZ (it recognizes 600 celery as PIII 600) and says that I need to change the processor to 450 MHz or change the motherboard.
I checked intel's website and saw that there was a bios update, but I am worried if I can do it without updating the bios, as some people scared me not to update it unless it is necessary. I would appreciate any comments. Thanks a lot.

I'd say: Update your bios.
Bios updates may go wrong and ruin your mobo but that should not keep you from doing it. Just follow the instructions carefully (and be sure you use a thoroughly checked (scandisk) floppy disk to boot from).

I downloaded the latest bios, but whenever I start the computer, it just goes to a screen saying that it couldn't support the higher speed processors, and this occurs even if I press F1, which is supposed to take me to the setup mode. so I donno how to flash the bios.

How can I update the bios if the machine doesn't even read the floppy. it just halts after starting that it cannot support the 600 Mhz processor. But the intel website says that the mobo could support 600 cpu if the latest bios is flashed. please...
