I had my celeron 566 running happily at 850 at 1.75 v. It would even load windows at 950 at 1.9 v. Now it wont boot at 850 (. still works at 566 though. Did i kill my processer? anyway to fix it?

I think this is further proof that burn-in works.

Sometimes the thermal grease dries out and therefore wont be as thermally conductive. Try removing the HS and checking it. Ive had the same thing happend to me with a 533a@850. Did you notice higher temps recently? Its nearly impossible to burn you cpu out, as it wont even reach a dangerous temperature before it stops operating. Hope this helps.

I havent changed any memory settings since OCing. I just check and the thermal grease that came with the orb isn't dried out. It does 566 and 707 just fine, but when I push it up to 850 it says invalid system disk and I get a lot of boot errors. anyone have any other ideas??? thanks

Up the voltage to 1.8 and see what happens. Gorb should be OK.

Off topic...

Hey kewl... My current banner ad on this page is from hp is a very funky graphical representation of an equation that's animated. You can change it by clicking on the numbers in the equation. But the ad doesn't lead anywhere. Definitely caught my attention.

What motherboard are you using? It may not be your processor that cant handle the high fsb. It could be another component, ie HD, pci card, scsi card, etc. Try upping the I/O voltage a tad, not too much though. Also please give us a run down of your specs. It may help.

Sorry about not posting system specs, here they are :

Celeron 566 no longer at 850
Abit Bx6 rev 2
Viper II
Aureal AQ 2500
Fujitsu 13 Gig HD
Pinnacle TV Tuner
Dlink 530 TX ethernet adapter
Kingston Ethernet Adapter
Plextor 8x Burner
Generic Floppy

I thought about trying to increase the I/O volatage but couldnt find the setting in the Bios, anyone with a bx6-2 know where it is? Also, the error I get when I boot at 850 is "Invalid System Disk" this happens when I try to boot off a floppy as well. Did I hose my IDE controller? Gonna try the processer in another system to see if it works. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Just a thought but you might have fried Winblows, I have done this before and could not get my processor to overclock hardly at all... You might also consider bios update`s... Good luck...

Hmm i would try the following things, since were not completely sure that the problem is not the processor itself, I would try to see of it could be the HD, which maybe cannot handle high fsb..try to change it in for another HD and see. Also try what bartman said too, reintall Windows. Last thing I would try is that assuming your using a slotket(?), I would try to up the voltage using the slotket, instead of the motherboard. There was a post on that a few days ago people were getting better results using this method. Ill try and look for it.

edit: found it look here,

I swapped my 566 for my trusty old 300 at 450, that didnt work.... so I'm thinking my 566 is still good. Trying to find another HD to do a clean Windows install to see if it works. I think it may be the mortherboard though because I can't even boot off a floppy at 100 fsb. Thanks everyone for your help, still hoping a clean install fixes it all.

well . . . .after countless resintalls of Windows on a bunch of different hard drives and fiddling aournd with bios and slotket settings , i think i've finally got it figured out. It was a BAD IDE cable. switched it for a new one I had laying around and my celeron is up and running at 850 again. I didnt know you could mess up an IDE cable with high bus speeds, never heard of it before. oh well, at least I'm up and running again. thanks a lot everyone for your suggestions
