Celeron 566 in BH6 - how do you get core voltage above 1.7v

I recently purchased a Celeron 566 for my Abit BH6. In the soft menu it only allows me to bump up the core voltage to 1.7v. I heard there is a "trick" to allow the user to surpass this setting. How do I do that?

I have been able to successfully overclock to 850mhz at 1.7v, but the machine reboots during stability tests, leading me to believe I may need to turn up the voltage.

On a separate note, my machine reboots whenever I try to "shut down". I am using Windows 2000. I believe it might be a motherboard short, any suggestions on a workaround or a way to make Win 2k have the user shut down?

Are you using a slotket that you can change the voltage on? I think the SoftMenu only let's you raise your voltage by like 15% of the default so if you set the voltage on your slotket to like 1.7v, then you'll be able to get up to 1.95 or so...

Otherwise, I think there's a way to solder some of the pins and stuff to change the default voltage on the cpu itself...but not sure where I read it...

Set the voltage to 1.7 then reflash with SS again, you should get higher options.

forgive me for asking, but what is "SS"?

do I just set the voltage to 1.7 and then reflash the bios using the same flash upgrade?

Is your Bh6 a Rev. 1.0X or a 1.1? If a 1.0X, then SS is the latest BIOS version which adds coppermine support. SP is the latest version for a Rev 1.1.

Thanks Jim!

I have bios rev 1.01. I just tried to reflash it using ss for the second time. The soft menu will only allow me to adjust the voltage from 1.3v to 1.7v - no higher settings. My slotket does not have a voltage selector. Any other suggestions?

step1: set your bios setting to default - remember the cpu speed too.
step2 : set voltage to user defined, set to highest available setting.
step3: save settings and restart.

insert the ss bios disk.
now the computer will start from the floppy.
1: type awdflash and flash program starts.
2: type in the name of the .bin file (bh6_ss.bin)
3: the flash program will ask you if you want to save the old bios - answer yes!
4: save the old bios to floppy with any name you like . press enter.
5: after the flash program has saved the old bios it will ask you if you want to program the bios - answer no.
6: the flash program will now terminate and return to your floppy drive.

now you are ready to trick your bios voltage settings!
7: the trick is not to start the flash program as you did previously .
8: type exactly as follows for the bh6ss bios : awdflash.exe bh6_ss.bin /py /sn /cc
9: press enter and later f10 to exit program.
10: restart and go into bios setting - now you will see the higher voltage is now the default.

Congrats, by the way, this method was originally posted by someone else in the forum.
