celeron 360 1.4 ghz processor

My dad is looking at getting a laptop with a celeron 360 1.4 ghz processor in it. In terms of speed, is it a real dog, or is it decent. He is not gaming, just web surfing, ordering, etc, but speed is important. I realize its not as fast as a p4 3 ghz chip or anything, but is this something that the average person should stay away from, or is it a decent performer?

His system will have 512 mb of ram also and run windows xp home.

It is actually close to a P4 3GHZ. The Celeron Ms are nearly as fast as Pentium Ms with slightly less battery life. It will work fine for him.

my 1.4ghz Celeron-M with intel extreme graphics runs WoW decently enough to call it playable. Hell, I even went thru a 40 man raid a few times when I was up visiting my parents and didn't have my PC to play on... The thing is actually quick, like someone said above me: C-M's are fast lil guys, the new ones are if I remember correctly basically the same as the old P-M's without the battery saving features.

the new celeron M ares basically like the old Pentium M's with 1 MB cache....the celeron is lacking some of the battery saving functions and half the 2mb cache...still a great chip tho...but really, its not that much more cheaper than the p-M.....get that if u can....

It will be fine for his use, I doubt he will have a problem. Coupled with a good battery, it should also allow some decent battery life.
