Celeron 3.33 (533) Vs. P4 2.6 (533)

I use my PC for the usual things, like email and surfing.

I also do lots of video encoding and re-encoding, and DVD authoring.

I'm using the P4 2.66 with PC800 RDRAM now, but I'm thinking about upgrading to the Celeron 3.33 when it becomes available. That's about as far as this ABIT TH7-II Raid board is going to upgrade.

Will there be a performance increase with the Celeron 3.33, or should I stick with the P4 2.66?

Thanks in advance.

I'd probably stick with the P4, a 1.4GHz AMD can take a 3GHz Celeron, unless they've changed Celeron recently...

Why not just overclock your P4 2.66? It should do nearly 3ghz, I would think. But, even if you don't want to overclock, the P4 should still outperform the Celeryon in video encoding and dvd authoring.

i850 chipsets do not allow that much of an oc, Stay with the 2.66. What you may want to get is a 3.06 w/ht for that mb

Very good idea, although a nice 865-chipset board can be had now for around $80...

The P4 3.06 Ghz 533MHz FSB with 512KB L2 cache does support Hyper-Threading

Unless something has changed recently

Isn't the P4 3.06 B (533) model the only 533 model that has Hyper Threading? I seem to recall it did have that feature.

You're talking about the 3.33 GHz Prescott Celerons which will ride a 533 MHz fsb as opposed to the 400 MHz bus of the Northwood Celerons and have twice the L2 cache (256 KB). Wait for these ones. They may be acceptable for gaming especially if they overlclock like they should.:)

Yes, that's the one I was considering as an upgrade to this 2.66 (533) Northwood.

Is that going to perform better than what I have now?

What about the 3.06 (533) talked about above?

The 3.06B will kill it, especially since it has hyperthreading. And, I don't think a 3.3ghz Celeron would be much faster than your 2.66, if both are run at stock speed.
