Celeron 1.7 Ghz, Is it a Upgrade from a Athlon 1.2 GHz?

yeah i checked out the review and the Duron 1300 seems to be beating it in most things so I would hope my Athlon would be around the same, so case closed.

If you are a gamer and need an upgrade i would upgrade that video card you got there
the 1.2ghz athlon is still pretty good
plus yur motherboard will let you upgrade just the cpu as well to an athlonxp
these ways would be cheeper than getting a whole new motherboard and P4, maybe even new mem

It would not be much of an upgrade. If you are going to get a P4 board, get a 1.6A to go with it.

I think it can be worth to upgrade. If you bump the Celeron to 133FSB you'll get a 2.26GHz CPU at a ridiculously low price (real soon the price will be even lower). It will be an identical performer to what? P4 2 GHz? Maybe not, but you'll get the equivalent of a NW performance of, say, 1.8-1.9 Ghz. Plus the upgrade path is excellent.

1600+ athlon is 68 bucks at newegg. sell you old proc on ebay and use it to pay off some of new nwer processor price

It's bult on the 0.18 micron process, so it will not likely hit 2.26Ghz with ease. An Athlon XP 1600 AGOIA would be the best choice for you. You should be able to get it to 1.8Ghz with good cooling.

Definitely not. A Duron 1.3GHz is strong competition for the 1.7GHz Celeron, as is your present processor. Any gains would be very minimal, and is some areas you'd lose performance.

Granted the Celeron 1.7GHz overclocks decently, but even highly overclocked it still only manages XP1600+ performance.
If you want a cheap upgrade just by an AXP 1600+/1700+/1800+, that way you won't have to replace your motherboard and you get stock performance that is easily far better then the stock 1.7GHz Celeron.... the lower end AXP's o/c nicely also.
