i have a celly 566 and an abit be6 running pc100 ram and noname brand slocket. it is the cc0 566 celly so default voltage is 1.7 i try to push it to 100fsb it works fine in windows...but wen i play a few mins of counterstrike it crashes or locks up. i tried the voltage settings from 1.7 all the way to 1.9. still crashes. then wen i try other settings...75/83 it wont boot into windows...some reason bios automatically sets the softmenu to the celeron 266(66) settings. it wont save wen the fsb is other than 66 or 100. wat is this?! help! i want my 100fsb! should i purchase an abit slocket? i have a golden orb running rite now.

Make sure your video card is NOT overclocked. Try fiddling with the AGP aperature size. Set your memory timings to CAS3 instead of CAS2. Try re-applying the heatsink with a new coat of thermal grease.

Good luck!

I similar problems with a Tekram slotket in a Aopen BX type motherboard. The MS-6905 Master slotket solved my problem (cC0 566 now stable @ 953 MHz) and is cited to be the best.

Onvia has these slotkets though they now charge $7.95 for shipping. The Onvia slotkets are rev 2.3, earlier revisions (1.x) of the MS-6905 were not as good (no onboard vrm?).

There are posts of problems with the Abit slotkets.

I agree on the MSI being the best but I have had good luck with the Abits as well since the latest revision. Let me know if you need either.

Also, one other thing you may want to check, are you setting your CPU voltage on the no name slocket or in the bios. Some versions of the Abit board will not put out more than 1.75 volts no matter what setting you have the CPU voltage on the socket set to. If your able to set the voltage in the bios to 1.8 and 1.9 you should be OK.

Also, you may want to check another setting in your bios. Most Abit boards have a seting call something like "speed error hold". If yours has this set it to disable. Its there to shut down the computer if the FSB is set to something other than the correct speed. If your going to do anything other than 66 Mhz FSB, this needs to be disabled.

hey kponds thanx for the speed error control thing. thats the thing that was not letting me change to 83fsb. =) owe you one man. um my cas is already at 3, but agp aperature size is at 64..should i try to raise it or lower it at 100fsb. thanx..any other pointers are MUCH appreciated. btw im running at 35degrees c at 83fsb 707mhz. good or bad?

I really kinda doubt that the heat is the issue in your case but it might just be. As I understand your using a golden orb cooler (I assume with the grease that came on the cooler). If you have the CPU voltage set to 1.9 to 1.95 and it will not go into windows, I suspect you have a dud overclocker CPU. If it goes into windows and works fine for a period of time (say 5 minutes of so) and then peters out, more than likely its a heat issue. If the 5 minutes and locks up is the scenario, take a small fan if you have one (like one of the 12 inch oscillating types) and blow on the CPU area of the computer with the case open and see if that eliminates the lockups. If it does, buy some Arctic Silver and possibly a better cooler (like an FOP32-1 Global Win).

As far as the CAS2 and AGP memory settings this shouldn't be a problem at 100 Mhz FSB because the AGP bus and memory bus are running in spec assuming you using a board desinged to suport 100 Mhz FSB CPUS. If the board is designed for 100 FSB Mhz CPUs, the board automatically adjust the AGP bus to run at 66 Mhz (the spec) and of course the memory is running at the FSB speed. If you have a via or an i815e chipset motherboard, you can adjust memory speed so do check that if you have one of these types of boards..

One other thing I would suggest. If you have a no-name slocket, consider buying a Abit slocket. With a relatively low cost of about $10 to $12, this might be the solution. Also, if you have a soundblaster live sound card, you may want to download the latest drivers (not the liveware but the drivers themselves). The original drivers shipped with this card had problems with FCPGA processors particularly when used in tandem with an overclocked FCPGA CPU. I generally see this problem at FSB over 100 Mhz (not at 100 Mhz) but I would update the drivers anyway just to eliminate the issue.

I would have to agree with replacing the slotket with an Iwill or MSI. I have OC several 622 cCo Celerons to 100mhz with no problems. The newest one is running at 997. I only use Iwill and MSI Slotkets.
