Ceiling Speakers

Guys, I recently purchased a new house which has built in ceiling speakers.

I'm complete newb and I have no idea how to connect them to my receiver.

Regarding the receiver, I went out and bought a STR-DN860 which I suspect is complete overkill.

Could anyone tell me how I should connect up the speakers? I have two sets of cables with four wires in each (red, black, white and green). Waht ports ont eh back of the STR-DN860 shoudl I connect them to?

I'd recommend taking one of the speakers down to see how it's connected. Given the two sets of wires, I'm assuming that there are two speakers, so having four wires makes it sound like it was connected in a bi-wire setup. However, they might have just run 4-wire speaker cable for potential future-proofing, which isn't unheard of when you're running wires in harder to reach spots. So, by taking down the speaker, we can see how it's connected, which will tell us how to connect it to an amp.

Dude, you don't talk to your builder? I'll bet my paycheck for the week that he can tell you the answer.

As an old installer I can tell you the speaker wires usually lead to a wall panel (tap) somewhere in that room, a closet or the upstairs master bedroom closet. Hopefully the tap is right in the room with the speakers and if so you just need to run speaker wire from the tap to your new receiver.

I wasn't sure if he meant a newly built house or a "new-to-me" house. 😛 People tend to refer to it as a new house even if it's an old one that they just purchased.
