Hey,

Has anybody installed a Hunter fan with one of those remote wall controls?

I am having trouble figureing out which wires go to what. Not the wires to the house but the wires from the fan to the remote device which gets put in between the fan and the celing wires.

Anyone set up something like this before?

Here are the instructions for the remote device.

Thanks

I did this is and it was a TREMENDOUS PITA. Just remember that you have to mount it all the ceiling first and hook the wires together while you hold the fan up to it. No hooking the wires together then placing it. As for the wires, there is a diagram listed on the sheet. Pretty straight forward.

The remote instructions assume you know what wire goes to the fan and what wire goes to the light. am I missign something how am I supposed toknow this? the wires aren't labeled to that affect.

The fan has three wires. White, black, and white/black striped.

The remote has Red Black white. the Red says "To Light" the Black Says "To Fan" and the White says "Neutral"

Typically with electrical work, whenever you have white/black striped or even a white wire with any markings on it, it means it's a hot wire.

Red is also being used here as a hot wire.

Red -> White/Black
Black -> Black
White -> White

Haven't personally installed Hunters, but that should do the trick. I'll see if there's any more info on it.

Also, one more thing. Typically, the black lead is always going to be the fan motor.

That is how I would do it. Then if things don't work, swap the black with the white/black.

Doesn't your fan instructions say what wire does what? Can't you follow the wires that were there before? There should be clues as to what wire does what.

I forsee the problem Tobolo had with mounting the fan. Holding it up while connecting the wires. Jees. How do you do that? Two person project i guess.

How good are you at balancing on one leg on a ladder with the other leg balancing the ceiling fan? ;)

No the the fan instructions don't say what wire controls what. and i am not replacing an existing Fan. I am replacing a light fixture. The Fan is not connectiong directly to the celing wires. I am installing a remote control device in between.

Also, I'd rather not have to decifer "clues" when messing with electricity. I don't have a blue dog helping me. ;)

It's not so bad. I installed a couple of them by myself. The trick is you mount the fan first without putting on the wire cover lid. That will give you enough room to connect the wires and you don't need a second person to hold the fan up while you connect the wires.

Takes me about 30 minutes to install each.

Every fan is different. For mine, there is no way to mount the fan before you connect the wires.
