The remote control to my ceiling fan is not working very well anymore. The fan will change speeds, but the light isn't responding but 10% of the time. I went to lowes and bought a new remote kit. The kit is made by the same manufacturer as the ceiling fan, Harbor Breeze. I figured I could just replace the remote, reprogram the remote to the receiver already in the fan and everything should work. I haven't had any luck though. Does anyone know if this should work, or will I have to reinstall the new receiver too? I'm hoping I don't have to because that will be a pain in he ass.

Unfortunately, all tech support for both fan and remote are closed and I can't find an instruction manual for the fan anywhere, nor do I even know the specific model of fan.

One last question, prob. a newb question... In the instructions for the new remote kit it says that this remote can't be used with a solid state speed control device... what exactly is that?

I guess my main question in an easier since... are all fan remotes universally compatible with all fans that already have a remote sensor in them? It would seem that since these are both Harbor Breeze I shouldn't need to replace the sensor in the fan, right?

In mine they are the same. I have two fans that operate off of one remote.

Not sure why yours isn't working though. Maybe it's not the remote since it works on the fan speeds.

Well thats why I figured it was the remote and just one button isn't working right. The fan came with our house and the remote is beat to shit.
