i'm sure there are stereos that have a digital out...

computer cd players just operate differently, a lot of them are more strict about corrupt data. so they purposely corrupt the data to screw up the computer drive. there's other stuff they do too.

Philips is fighting fire with fire. They say that the copy protection schemes alter the CD Red Book standard and thus are not real CDs. Labels that release these crippled albums may not be able to call them "compact discs" and will be forced to use warning labels on the case.

I have also ripped the From Chaos CD to my machine without issue. Kicks ass.
I've also ripped:
¤ Barenaked Ladies: Maroon (Sony)
¤ Bush: Golden State (WEA/Atlantic)
¤ George Carlin: You Are All Diseased (WEA/Atlantic)
¤ Crazy Town: Gift of Game (Sony/Columbia)
¤ Creed: Weathered (BMG) - Ripped this one last week
¤ Doors: The Best of the Doors (2 CD Set) (Magada)
¤ Drowning Pool: Sinner (BMG)
¤ Eagles: Box Set (1972-1999 Selected Works) (WEA/Elektra) - this kicks ass

And a bunch of others from the list.

i think a lot of people are able to rip them because not all the drives have trouble reading corrupted cds. just a theory...

and if enough people want me to remove the list, i can do that...

My understanding of what they are doing is taking advantage of the error correction algorithms built into audio CD players. The bad bit is interpolated over and in theory no audible change is discernable. Since PC CD's read the data stream without the error correction an artifact is introduced producing the pops and clicks. I hope the RIAA is reamed for this garbage. Personally I will not buy another audio CD until this is stopped.

I have several of those cds and they've all been ripped and copied with no problem. I wouldn't take that list at face value.

Simple, yet effective way of protecting the reputation of the CD. Gotta love the Brits. Always liked Philips, they make some nice stuff.
