I have 3 drives in my computer and whenever I click on a game, it says retry, check to see if CD is in the tray (it always is). Then i click retry and the cd spins up and it goes. Whats wrong with my computer?

I would say that it might need to be cleaned. How offten do you clean your drives? We are stuck here in the sand of the Middle east and we doing have drive cleaners. We started out with 5 computer that can play DVD's. Now we are down to just one that can play. Next on the ordering list in a drive cleaner.

these are brand new. After I click retry it works...so I know all these drives are functional, its just weird because they show the icon of the CD in my computer, but they dont recognize unless told again or something.

That is wierd, I have never come across that sort of problem in all my repair jobs. You might look to a software issue or confilct that could be interfearing. When was the last time you updated the Firmware on your drives. Outside of that I can't think of much else to look at. Best of luck to you on the answer for that one.

Inserting a CD causes it to spin up so Windows can identify the disc. Once its been identified the drive will spin down if left idle but Windows will know that the disc is still in the drive. However, before the disc can be used (i.e. by a game to verify the cd is in the drive) it has to be span up again, being a mechanical drive sometimes the game will try to verify the game before the disc has had time to spin up to full speed hence why you need to press 'retry' for it to work. What you are experiencing is pretty normal, don't stress about it.
