cd's burn slow after viruses attack

My xp got screwed again. I keep getting this virus everytime I go to a certain site. I keep my updates current and never install any active x that pops up.. but now they pop up an input box with all this code and it executes and put on 100 pieces of spy ware, spysheriff being prominent. Well sure I deserve it, but I always have avg or Norton, and I have ewido & ad-aware. Now I had to go to safe mode and Norton cleaned out a bunch.

Then ad aware cleaned it out and it said there was nothing left but it still was infected. So then ewido cleaned out almost the rest. Now I have avg, Norton (I don?t run the two at the same time duh), ad-aware, ewido all telling me my system is 100% std fee.

But then there was this program, sending out spam mails off my connection.. it took me forever to find something called smitRem that ran a batch and deleted a mess of crap? and then the emails spamming until about 50 winlogon fakes started spawning up in my process list.. so finally I used hijack this and removed it and other things I that didn?t have a symbolic name or sound to important things, like ?nv?..

now my processes all show normal, according to port explorer there?s never any rogue processes using my connection.. every thing seems normal except a problem.. when I try to burn a cd it uses 100% of my cpu, lags my pc like hell, and can only get as fast as 16x and some times makes coasters. I reinstalled my chipset drivers and tried other burning software.. there?s is also random acts of lag when I try to brows files.. its kind of like the io hardware is being emulated by the cpu, like the old 56k modems I remember doing if they were winmodems.

Anyways if anyone knows of a simple fix I?d appreciate it, cause I?ve format 3 times in the past 6 months because of simply going to a web site and then (Your computer is infected with spyware popup over and over and compromise of background picture aswell). I am actually more curious as to what that site does and how to block it

Ouch!

You realy need to disable all activeX in IE (you can turn it off completely) and stick to using the latest version of Firefox...

As for the slow cdrom burning stuff...

You need to make sure that DMA access is turned on for your cdrom and harddrives. Windows will sometimes turn all that off automaticly after crashes and whatnot, I beleive.
See here:
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/storage/IDE-DMA.mspx

DMA is direct-memory-access and it removes load off of your cpu by allowing devices to directly access memory without having to go through the central cpu. It makes things go much faster and is usually enabled by default.

So that is the first thing I'd check.

It could possibly be something else.
