CDRWIN issues with External Firewire burner

i have a liteon 48x burner in an external firewire enclosure. my cdrwin 3.9b will not recognise it...it is not being picked up.
nero 5.5.9 recognizes it fine though.

anyone know how to fix this problem?

EDIT: cdrwin 3.9b picks up liteon....but only as a reader....not a recorder in the devices and settings
