Anyone know what may cause this error from CDRWin? using latest version, 3.8b, with a HP 9210i scsi, 8x4x32 drive and any type of copying/recording in CDRWin gives me this START DAO RECORDING error--tried imaging to disk and on-the-fly, both fail with same error. am using latest HP firmware, 1.0e. CD-ROM settings, as per suggested by CDRWin, Sync Data checked, Disconnect checked, Auto-notification unchecked. using ALT-CTRL-DEL, killed all but Explorer and Systray, uninstalled Logitech Mouseware (i had problems with Mouseware during it's beta stages), changed scsi ID's around, updated ASPI drivers, updated firmware and Win98 drivers for my scsi card (Tekram 390u2w). Fooled around with mobo (BP6) bios, non-overclocked. I can't think of anything else to try, and have done multiple searches for HP drives and CDRWin. I've tried at least 3 different media, 64min and 70min included. Strange thing was, this configuration was working fine a month ago. Coincidentally, Easy CD Creator 4.02 is giving me similar problems :(

If you have a cracked copy of cdrwin that is probably your problem, if it's a legal copy if you email Goldenhawk i would bet dollars to donuts they can help.

"If you encounter problems (not booting into windows, blue screens,...) after installing one of these (CD-R) programs, rename the Scsi1hlp.vxd file in the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\IOSUBSYS map to Scsi1hlp.old .

If you have or had installed Adaptec Easy CD Creator (and especially Adaptec DirectCD) you MUST do the the above prior to installing any other CD-R software. Otherwise, Easy CD Creator will nuke your day... Somehow Easy CD Creator f*cks up other CD-R software (even if you uninstalled Easy CD Creator), but by renaming the vxd file you can avoid problems and will Easy CD Creator live in peace with other software..."

Adaptec may have hosed your system, it's been known to do that. It looks like you are going to have to do a fresh install. If you must have Adaptec on your system install it after installing your other burning apps, and ghost your install before installing the Adaptec.

Is your scsi card on a bus mastering slot? if not make sure that it is. Have you tried the card in different slots? if not try that. And I assume you have double and triple checked that your reader is terminated with an unique ID.

well i dunno what factors or combination of factors, but after a fresh format with that Win98 reinstall and new ASPI layer updates, all is working well.

thanks for all the tips guys! :D
