CDRW suggestion?

I had a question about CDRW suggestions.

I've currently got a machine with a TDK 40X IDE cdrw. I've no complaints.

I'm thinking of upgrading to a 52X but only if the price is right (like say <$20 after rebate) and only if a 52X Lite on model would be worth replacing my TDK. Is this worth the hassle of the rebates, etc. ?

I'm under the impressiont that my TDK drive is pretty good, that the Lite On is a better drive but it's not worth upgrading unelss the cost is low (which is why I say <$20 after rebate because that's a price that is hard to resist.)

I think it's funny that I upgraded my computer 2 months ago, and the upgrade included going from a yamaha 4416 scsi burner to the TDK drive, and I've still got 10X and 12X media that I haven't used. I just bought a bunch of 48X media (150 disks) as well, so the increase from 40X to 52X will probably still not be seen by me for a while. (and I don't burn that many cds.)

your TDK is fine...I have a LG-4480B ..and drop its burn speed to 32x ..for better results with older machines reading of said burnt media ..

I like my Lite-On52X but my re-labeled Lite-On DVD is better at ripping MP3's. It's nice burning CD's at 52X :)

If there is nothing wrong with your present CDRW drive, I wouldn't replace it. I have a Yamaha 24X burner and wouldn't trade it for anything. Unless you are in the business of making CD's (which none of us are - I only use mine about twice a month), then why waste your money? Just my opinion. Now if you just want bragging rights - then spend the money.

I wouldn't replace your current 40x CD-RW for a 52x. A week ago I got a Sony 48x. Burning a 700mb at 48x - 3mins. At 32x it was ~3:20. The difference between 52x and 40x will be even less noticable. I say keep the TDK :)

I've got the 40X TDK in one of my machines and it has burned a lot of cdrs (I seem to know a lot of people who are on dialup or can't seem to get the hang of Google and I am always making driver disks.). I have been quite pleased with the speed and durability of it. Many of the newest drives seem to be shipping with Nero Express which I think sucks. I much prefer the full version of Nero that came with the 40X TDK.

Lite On CDR rebate? Can you post a link to any info about the rebate?

Thanks!

Lint- check the hot deals forums for cendyne 52X cdrws or verbatim 52X cdrws.

The reason why I asked about the TDK vs Lite on is because I'm building a new box, and my plan was initially to put my Verbatim 52X in the new box, but then I thought... why not just use that in this computer, and put the TDK in the new box I'm building? And then, the fact that there's lots of deals for cdrws... how do you resist a 52X drive for $16?

I've decided I'm not opening this computer up to remove the TDK after all, since everything is working fine. I don't burn much so it's not an issue. (as fast as the 16X burns are, it's still a little bit of a hassle, yknow?) I don't have much RW media (and the media I have is 4X) so upgrading to a 52/24 from a 40/12 won't help until i find deals on RW media.

Thanks for the responses. I appreciate it.
