its a 24x16x32x LG cdrw, been using for around 1 year with no problems but lately it makes weird whirring noises when i try to open it and it refuses to burn music cds, just says "burn process failed" IMMEDIATELY after i click start... it writes data cds but doesnt finish them... anyone know whats up?

My standard copy and paste answer:

Specks of dust in just the right place in the optics could cause this. Pull out the CD-R drive, take the cover off, and dust it out with canned "air." Use short, careful, low-power air bursts around the laser eye area, as the focusing mechanism is fragile. Assuming it's not bad media (easy to rule out), a software issue, or a another hardware problem, such as a PSU problem (more difficult to rule out, but if you're not experiencing other stability issues, don't jump to conclusions), this is the average user's best hope for fixing a malfunctioning optical drive.

With the price of CDRW drives being cheaper than ever, you may save yourself an ulcer by just getting a new one. I know this didn't really answer you question, but one thing I have learned is that sometimes somethings are simply not worth the aggravation.

im tempted to go out and get a dvd burner for xmas 😀 that would solve my problems... but i cant really afford one so i'll definitely try to fix it thx for the asnwer thegonagle
