cdrw questions

I have a liteon 52x cdrw and I use nero 6 oem for burning.

my problem is that when I burn a cd with the liteon, it hangs at the part right before burning for about 2 minutes. then it will either burn the disk very slowly, like half speed, or it will crash and screw up the disk.

I'm running winxp pro w/ all upgrades, 512 meg ram, 80+40 gig hds and athlon xp 1800.

please advise.

thanks
jam

Check the IDE Controller in Device Manager to see if the burner is running in DMA mode. If it's running in PIO mode, uninstall the IDE Controller from Device Manager and reboot. Once the devices are detected, reboot again.

Windows will downgrade the transfer rate if transfer errors occur, so if this happens again I would start by making sure your chipset drivers are current and then replace the IDE cable.
