CDRW question: Who will be around?

Hey guys,

I'm having trouble determining who and who will not be manufacturing CDRWs in the near future. I'm a purchasing specialist at my company, and I found out it's up to me to find out. This is kinda interesting, so let me tell you what I found out so far.

I called HP, as I looked through their new catalog and noticed the 12x is the same price as the 16x. When I called HP, the rep told me the 12x is phased out, they don't know about the 16x, and that HP is GETTING OUT of the whole CDRW market.

In fact, they've teamed up w/ Sony, Philips, Mitsu, and others in creating their own standard DVD-RW. The difference here is if you do not have one of their drives, the DVD-R won't work. They say they messed up when creating a standard for CDRW because it flooded the market. So buyers watch out for this.

Anyways, I still need to find out who will continue to make CDRWs and are not junky. Fellow Anantechers, PLEASE HELP! Thanks

Leejai😀
