looking into getting cdrw for christmas and was wondering what burn proof is? and do i need it? i want to burn copies of my ps/ps2 games and download dramcast copies i own, thanks..

Effectively, burnproof allows you to "stop" burning if a buffer underrun is imminent....and "continue" burning when it's safe...

There's lots of cool explanation with neat-o graphics out there...i'll try to find you one.

EDIT: ok, here's a somewhat decent link...not the "neat-o" one i promised...oh well 🙂

In even simpler terms....

It lets you multi-task while burning a cd without worrying about making a coaster (i.e. a bad burn)

The biggest problem with early cd burners was that if you did much of ANYTHING with the comp while burning, the data pipe to the burner would fill up, and the burner wouldn't be getting any data...so it would freak out and ruin your cd-r

with burnproof, the burner "waits" till problems are cleared up...and then automatically continues

Definitely, it's pretty much a staple these days. It'd be ridiculous with current burner costs to settle for NOT getting it..

Not sure what burners you're looking at, or if you want to order online, but newegg.com has a 24X lite-on with burnproof for under a 100 bucks...or you can get a 24x plextor with burnproof for 150.

i highly suggest either model
