CDRW Problem

I have a Lite-On LTR-16101B, which has worked well for years.

For some reason, now it will not show up on the "choose recorder" menu in Nero, and Windows XP (Home) does not seem to think it is a writable drive either. It shows up as drive "D:", and reads with no trouble.

I noticed the problem after installing a new video card and/or removing some java based virus files that Mcafee's free online virus scan found (my OS was up to date so nothing was infected). I don't know if either of these might be related to the CDRW.

Anyway, I have already tried:
1. Uninstalling and Reinstalling Nero.
2. Uninstalling the drive from the device manager and rebooting (with step 1).
3. Flashing the drive to the latest firmware (along with steps 1 & 2).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Try disconnecting the power and cable ribbon from the drive. Power up the system and then shut down. Reconnect the drive and see if this will solve the problem.

Nvidia chipset motherboard?

The IDE/ATAPI driver from the Nvidia 5.10 driver set gave me problems. Those problems may be due to SP2/Nvidia incompatabilites.

Rolling back the IDE/ATAPI drivers to standard Windows IDE/ATAPI driver cured the problem.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the suggestions, but no dice:

Try disconnecting the power and cable ribbon from the drive. Power up the system and then shut down. Reconnect the drive and see if this will solve the problem.

Unfortunately, this did not help.

Nvidia chipset motherboard?

No, still on an old school ECS K7S5A (SIS 735 Chipset)

I have a feeling that the problem might be with Windows XP; I would hate to replace the Drive and/or software and have the same problem.

One other thing, I think the Nero software will only work with this drive (OEM packaging), and I was wondering if there might be a way to reset the authorization.
