My Lite-on CDRW (Newegg special) arrived today! Well I installed the drive and everything seems okay. The system recognizes the drive and the drive is otherwise working. However I have not burned a CD yet with this drive.

Before I burn I need some advice.

1. Currently the drive is slaved to the HDD (primary IDE). The manual recommends the secondary IDE - should I place the original CDROM drive off the primary IDE - i.e., off the HDD?

2. I checked in device manager to see if DMA was enabled but when I look under the Liteon CDRW drive, I do not see any mention of DMA. How can I confirm DMA is enabled?

3. I have a Gigabyte 7DX Aurora mobo (VIA686B chipset) do I need to install any driver updates?

3. I understand the Easy CD software needs to be updated so I am currently downloading v.5.01 - anything else I need to do?

Thanks for your patience - I searched before I asked these questions but still wanted some clarification. :)

You want to put the CDRW usually on its own channel. So I would suggest putting the HD as primary master, CDROM as the primary slave, and then the CDRW as the secondary master. Some will argue whether or not to enable dma, but I think you should enable DMA. Your mobo shouldn't ened new drivers.. (make sure you have the latest via 4-1 drivers installed though).
Also, I would reccomend that you DO NOT use EZCD creator, and use something like NERO or CloneCD.

I installed the latest via 4-1 drivers v4.29 and I did find the DMA settings in device manager - both primary and secondary IDE have DMA enable Not PIO).

However - when I tried to put the CDRW on the secondary IDE (also have a Zip 250 on that IDE cable) and the CDROM drive on the primary (off the HDD) - my computer would not move past the bios screen. When I returned the drives to their original config - everything was fine. Any suggestions?

Finally, it appears the v5.01 of Easy CD will not install because the program cannot find a Roxio product. I did upgrade to v4.03b.

How can I get version 5.01 to install?

Thanks again.

Damn, if I had to defrag before every burn, I wouldn't get anything done. Where the heck that come from?
