Like the title says... my CDRW drive wont recognize any discs that are inserted into the drive. It was working before so I dont think its necessary to open the box up to check cabling. As well, it shows up as a drive in "my computer". If I insert a disc and then go into "my computer" and double click on the affected drive, I get a message that I need to insert a disc.

Should I just remove the drive in the device manager and let windows re-acqiure it?

Help me....

open the tray and shoot some canned air into the drive, just to make sure there isn't any comp-u-dung on the inside,
another option is to get a cleaner, i think allsop made one it has a cd with a little brush on it, you put a few drops of cleaning solution on it and run and it cleans the optics, outside of that , look at the hot deals section and pick up a new one for fiddy bucks.

if you are using winXP, then that could possibly be the problem. i had the same problem when i switched from win2k to winxp. i guess my cdrw didn't....and still doesn't have full support for winxp........but downloading a bunch of drivers and what not did the trick and now it works fine.
