CDRW doesn't load disc

I may not have stated that exactly correct. I have Mitsumi CRt408TE (I think that is the right part number, don't want to pull CDRW back out to look0\). When you insert a cd-rw, you will hear it spin up and the light blinks, but it doesn't find the disc. Sometimes you can remove the disc and replace it and it will find it or not. Is this common in this brand? I bought it at Circut City as a Digital Pacific. I have gone to Digital Pacific's web site and downloaded new drivers but that didn't make any real change. Thanks for any help.
