Hey first a note to mods, delete this if its against the rules to post the same topic in two diffrent forums. (trying to get as many people to see it as possible, sorry if I break any rules)
Alright thanks in advance for anyone reading, first my specs for this problem :
Hardware : A7N8X Deluxe Rev 2.0 with 5.10 Drivers, 1 Asus 52X Cdrom, 1 Yamaha CRW-F1E 44x24x44 burner, and lastly 1 Sony MPD-AP20U external combo drive 24x10x24/+ 8X Dvd read. Software : XP SP2 with all latest drivers for everything else software and hardware wise.
Alright heres the problem, for some reason when I try to play a game that streams its music right off the CD (Half life 1, Age of empires 2 etc.) none of the CDroms will play the music automatically on que when they should for any of the games. Things I have tried include, switching Nvidia driver versions, uninstalling the nvidia IDE driver only, and yes I've tried using digital and analog cd audio with in the device manager. Also my analog audio cable is connected to my main Asus CDrom (but thats not the problem, the CD would still spin up if the game or windows software was still getting the request to do so, I just wouldn't hear the music.)
Heres a few odd things though, #1. the music has worked before after each reinstall of windows with SP1 and SP2, I think it has to do with some driver screwing up (its definitely not a hardware problem) like when the game sends the command to play music maybe having 3 Cdroms and 2 Virtual drives confuses it for some reason. Which brings me to #2. If I disable in device manager each CDrom/Burner/Virtual drive except for the one with the game in it, it works fine.
#3. I can still use windows media player to play the cdrom music fine, also Asus CDROMS have a play button on them that allows you to start up CDrom music with no software needed, that also works flawlessly still.
Anyways I'm just wondering if anyone has had a similer type problem, or if anyone knows if this is a windows flaw with multiple Cdroms/Virtual drives etc. heh its annoying to be forced to disable every drive to play one of these games, expecially when it was working fine before and that the music works fine with any media player. Its like it randomly stopped working this time and about 3 months ago it happened with SP1 also on a diffrent Hard drive.
