For some reason every 30 seconds to 1 minute my cdrom decides to spin up, and absolutely everything on my computer stops resonding. Can't type, mouse stops moving, sound stop, if I'm playing a game the game stops responding, etc. After a 3 second freeze everything is fine again.

I know its not a killer problem, but I've never had this happen with my other computers. Its really annoying.

Asus A7V133 tried bios 1004 and 1005
TB 1.33
256 meg ram
Dual boot Win2k SP2 and Win98 SE(happens in both)
Fresh installs, latests 4in1 drivers
HP CD Writer plus 8100
Sony 52x cdrom
IBM Deskstar ATA100
Tried both regular ata100 controller and the promise controller
DMA enabled

Sounds like what I had a problem with things not being set to DMA.. so when they're running in PIO mode it sucks the CPU dry and nothing happens during that type.

Check the hardware profile section or your MB's BIOS to make sure it's set right.

Duh.. just noticed your DMA enabled thing. All I can say is if it says it's enabled in Windows, see if it's not on your MB. Otherwise I have no idea what coudl be the problem.
