Both my cdorms have been working perfectly for a while..
i reformated a lil while ago and since then, whenever i put in a cd, cd player and winamp recognize it and even shows the track time and everything.. but it won't play the music. this is the same on both dirves.. if anyone could help I would really apreciate it...
btw I can audio cds and everything jsut fine and they work fine on my compuetr if they are data or on a cdplayer if they are audio.
The drives are plextor12x10x32x and an old ricoh.. I am running in windows98se and am using a soundblaster live value

Thanks,
Dave

if u play a track, do u see the time running normally? if yes, the only problem u might have is that the audio cables from sound card to the cd-rom drives aren't installed.

Yeah, I agree with esc.....

double check that the cables from your CD-ROM drive are going to your sound caard (or wherever it goes in your computer)

*nods in agreement with other two people*

Also, since you say the problems occured after you reformated, you thus had to re-install all your software and drivers. I am thinking that you should also double check your soundcard settings to make sure that the CD audio is not muted (hey you never know especially when many cards auto-mute certain channels when certain applications are loaded).

the audio wire is from the cdrom is hooked up fine, on both drives
the time does play down.. now here is the wierd thing.. the cds only play in windows media player.. I cna't get them to work anywhere else...
does anyone know how to fix this?

Don't want to patronise you but you've checked the CD Audio volume I assume? If not double click the yellow speaker icon on the system tray.

OK . . . that points to another problem. Apparently WMP has taken over the file association for audio CDs. Check Control Panel, Folder Options and your File Associations.
