I need to buy a new drive and I'm stuck on which to get. I can't decide weither I should be buying a CDROM or DVDROM. I will never use my PC to watch movies. I've got a 27 inch TV with PS2 sitting directly beside my PC. The only reason I would get a DVDROM is for the "one day DVDROM will be the norm" deal. Do you guys think it is worth ~$60 to buy a DVDROM or should I save myself some money and stick with a CDROM for ~$30?

Sure DVD-ROM might be the norm one day, but it hardly is now. Applications (games, office suites, operating systems, etc.) will continue to be published on CD-ROM for a long, long time in order to maintain backwards compatibility (not to mention the fact that DVDs cost more to produce than CDs). I wouldn't hesistate to save yourself the $30 and get the CD-ROM. If you ever do need a DVD-ROM, you'll be able to buy a better drive for the same amount of money. Why waste money on something that you don't need just to have it sit around and depreciate in value?
