CDR Media question, please help

Do you have to use a specific speed CDR that matches the speed of your drive? If I have a 24x drive and I buy 8x CDR media, what speed will the drive copy at?

USUALLY doesn't matter. I still have some 8x media that works fine in my 24x burner. But for sure there will be some 8x media that won't burn reliably at higher speeds. You tell the drive what speed to burn, not the media.

yeah, most slower media will burn fine in faster burners

but truth is that most 24x certified media isn't really anymore expensive than other cd-r's these days

not entirely true with some newer drives which can drop the write speed if it detects "poor media" which wouldn't be written to correctly at the higher speed! 😱
